The OSKD has been in operation in the Ottawa area for over 10 years. By training Karate-Dō in a safe and friendly atmosphere, we encourage students to achieve personal development both physically and mentally. Our training follows the guidelines provided by the Japan Karate Association (JKA).

The OSKD is affiliated with the JKA Shōtōkan Karate-Dō Canada (JKA-SKD Canada) which is part of the international umbrella organization of the Japan Karate Association World Federation (JKA-WF). The JKA headquarters (Honbu Dōjō) is located in Tokyo, Japan.

The OSKD is under the technical direction of its founder, Chief Instructor Oscar Avellaneda Sensei. He is a certified JKA GoDan (5^th degree black belt) who has been involved with martial arts for over 30 years. Avellaneda Sensei is under the technical guidance of Master Mori Masataka Sensei, Chief Instructor of Shōtōkan Karate-Do International. Our other instructor is Bio Aikawa Senpai who holds the rank of YonDan (4^th degree black belt) from the JKA..
